Mission Statement

The Mark E. “Killer” Bates ’75 Memorial Scholarship has been established in Mark’s memory to provide significant financial assistance to New Hampshire students attending PSU - Plymouth State University, who are seeking a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education or Business. Our goal is to help deserving individuals within our community achieve their career goals and objectives, which has the added benefit of bettering your community at large.

Biography

Mark “Killer” Bates was born and raised in Warner NH. He attended school in Warner and was part of the first graduating class from Kearsarge Regional High School in 1971. He graduated from Plymouth State College with a bachelor’s degree Physical Education.

Mark began his career at Weaver Brothers Construction Co. in the summer of 1971 at age 18, working every summer until 1975 when he became full time. He worked his way up from laborer to co-owner and President of Weaver Brothers Construction, which he acquired, with his brothers in 1994.

Throughout his lifetime Killer was always there to support anyone in need, any way he could, be it financially, an encouraging word or lend a helping hand.

Mark’s adult life was spent in Contoocook where he immersed himself in his community. He devoted his tine to various town committees and was a longtime Commissioner of the Contoocook Men’s Softball League. Killer was the ultimate Boston sports fan, a devoted follower of all teams, especially the Red Sox and Pats. Business came first, however “Killer” loved to golf and he was an avid snowmobiler motorcyclist, competitive skier and a certified diver.
